Concord, N.C. (June 4, 2008) - After a two-week break, Roush Fenway Racing up-and-comer Ricky Stenhouse Jr. will return to action in the ARCA RE/MAX Series this Saturday at Pocono Raceway. The series point's leader hopes to continue his string of top-10 finishes (four in his last four starts) with the Con-way Freight logo on the hood of the No. 99 Ford at Pocono.
"I'm really looking forward to getting back in the race car after a two week break," said Stenhouse. "It's an honor to have Con-way Freight on the car this week. They've been a great partner to Roush Fenway and I'm glad I'm able to go out and represent them in the ARCA Series at Pocono. We're going to work hard to give them a good run and a shot at victory lane."
This weekend's race marks the first time Stenhouse has raced at the 2.5-mile tri-oval however, he did successfully test at the track in preparation for the event.
"The test went really good." Stenhouse continued, "We were faster than when the team tested there last year with Travis Kvapil so I was pretty happy about that. It's a fun track to drive because you have to drive it. All three corners are different so you try to get your car working good in one corner then the driver has to make up the difference in the other two. That makes it a fun challenge.
"They have patched the track in turn three so when the Cup teams went there to test they said that was the better place to run through that corner. We had the No. 99 Ford working really good on the bottom so we'll have to figure out how to run through the patch but I think it will make it racier and make for better passing."
As for the challenges that Pocono brings, Stenhouse had this to say, "I just need to keep it off the curb. There have been a lot of guys run over the curb and they cut a tire down and their day is ended so I need to be real careful of that."
Stenhouse's average starting position this season is 13.1 while his average finishing position is 9. He has finished in the top-10 for the last four weeks bringing his total to five top-10 finishes and three top-five finishes in seven starts, including his first career ARCA win at Kentucky Speedway. He has completed 97.3% of the total laps possible in 2008 and leads Matt Carter in the point standings by 10.
"It's nice to be leading the points, but we need to work harder to maintain our lead," Stenhouse commented. "There's still a lot of racing left this season so we need to continue to run up front and complete all the laps which is right in line with our original plan we set forth at the start of the season. Jack (Roush, owner) told me just the other day that, ‘in order to keep cushioning the points lead, I need to finish every lap and run up front' so we're on the same page."
The 80-lap event will kick off at 1:00 p.m. EDT at Pocono Raceway and will be tape delayed on SPEED at 6:30 p.m. EDT.
