Concord, N.C. (April 19, 2012) – 2011 Daytona 500 Champion Trevor Bayne will have three weeks to rebound from a tough run at Texas and prepare for the Aaron’s 499 at Talladega Superspeedway on May 6th. Bayne will look to build upon the success he had at Talladega in the fall of 2011. Bayne started the race in the fourth position and got a hard-fought top-15 finish. Bayne has an obvious affinity for restrictor-plate racing, but is looking to redeem himself after a tough outing in the 2012 Daytona 500. Bayne and the No. 21 Wood Brothers Racing team have faced adversity before, but they have always battled back to secure solid runs. It is no secret that the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is the most competitive form of motorsports competition in the country. It is a testament to the oldest race team in NASCAR, to stay competitive and relevant in a sport that has seen its fair share of flash in the pan drivers and teams.
“We treat the sport like a regular business”, said Wood Brothers co-owner Eddie Wood. “You have to know your limitations when making decisions regarding the sponsorship landscape, race schedule and the driver. We model it after our father who ran a limited schedule in the 1960’s and 1970’s. They were wildly successful with David Pearson behind the wheel and they became legends of our sport.”
“For me to be able to represent the Wood Brothers and the history the family has shared with NASCAR from its roots is really special,” said Bayne. “I realize we have a limited window to succeed because we don’t run every race, but it makes me work that much harder to deliver wins for such a great people.”
