Bayne Collects Another Top-10 Finish at Dover

Dover, Del. (September 28, 2013) – Trevor Bayne and the Roush Fenway Racing No. 6 Pillow Pets team struggled with a tight race car for the majority of Saturday afternoon’s 200-mile NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) race at Dover International Speedway but fought back to finish ninth at the one-mile track.

Bayne qualified his Pillow Pets Mustang in the 18th position on Saturday afternoon and the team knew they had their hands full for the 200 lap 5-Hour Energy 200. Track position is key at the one-mile “Monster” and the team knew there were plenty of adjustments they would need to make.

At the drop of the green flag, Bayne quickly radioed in that his car was really tight in dirty air.  Kelley radioed back to stay with it, that he was waiting on a yellow to come in and make adjustments.

The first caution flew on lap 25, under the yellow flag, Kelley called his driver down pit road for adjustments.  One round of wedge in the right rear along with an air pressure adjustment, four tires and two cans of fuel was the call.

When the race returned to green, Bayne reported that adjustments were good, but the car was still too tight to gain on the leaders, Bayne hovered in the 16th position until a caution flew on lap 36.  The team decided to stay out while the leaders came in to make their stop.  After the cycle of stops, Bayne was sitting 7th.

Bayne raced his way up to the 4th position, gambling on a yellow flag, the team was forced to pit under green flag conditions. The team lost the valuable track position they had gained earlier in the race.  Kelley called for a round of wedge to be taken out of the left rear, hoping that would give his driver more side bite exiting. Bayne was shuffled back to 18th after the stop.

The remainder of the race went without a caution flag, Bayne worked his up through the field in the closing laps, passing a total of nine cars to cross the finish line in ninth.
