Concord, N.C. (October 7, 2013) – Trevor Bayne and the No. 6 Cargill Beef Ford team finished 8th in the 200-lap Dollar General 300 from Charlotte Motor Speedway Friday night.
Trevor Bayne and the No. 6 Cargill Beef team qualified their Ford Mustang 7th Friday afternoon, Bayne felt the car had a little more speed after qualifying and felt they would be fast as the sun went down and the lights were turned on Friday evening.
The green flag flew friday afternoon and Trevor Bayne quickly began working his way through the field. Althought the car was not quite to his liking, the young gun was able to hold track position and after Mike Kelley's pit strategy, Bayne found himself leading the field.
Bayne fought to stay up front but the car was just too loose to hang on to. Bayne had slipped back to 11th by the time the yellow flag flew. Bayne was called to pit road where his team quickly went to work. A trackbar adjustment, four tires and two cans of fuel was the call.
Bayne reported in his car was too loose on exit and too tight through the middle. Crew chief Mike Kelley kept Bayne out until Bayne once again visited pit road on lap 88 under a yellow flag condition. Another trackbar adjustment was made in addition to only taking two tires on the stop. The quick stop gained Bayne two positions, moving him up to seventh.
Bayne battled the handling for a majority of the race, working his way up to fourth after his pit crew made a blistering stop that gained him valuable track position in the dwindling laps. Bayne fought to keep his Cargill Mustang up front but with the handling issues he slipped back, settling into eighth at the drop of the checkers.
