Bristol, Tenn. (August 24, 2012) – Trevor Bayne and the No. 60 “We Back Pat™”-themed Ford sponsored by YourRaceCar.com/Learn2Adjust.com started on the pole in the NASCAR Nationwide Series Food City 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway on Friday night. Bayne and Roush Fenway teammate Ricky Stenhouse Jr. ran in the top-10 the majority of the evening and was among the fastest in the field, but Bayne was an innocent bystander in a three-car wreck on lap 243 that ruined his night. Ultimately, Bayne finished in the 16th position.
Bayne and the No. 60 team were on fire from the moment they unloaded at Bristol Motor Speedway on Friday morning. Bayne was the fastest in the sole practice session and qualified on the pole. Bayne ran in the top-five the first 80 laps and never fell below the 11th during the race. The caution flew eight times during the 250 lap event. Bayne struggled with minor handling issues late in the race, but crew chief Scott Graves made key adjustments on pit road. Bayne was scored in the sixth position on the last green-flag run of the night and was the fastest car on the track, but on lap 243 he was involved in a three-car wreck that ruined a promising evening and a triumphant return to the Nationwide Series.
“We had a good run going tonight,” said Bayne. “I thought we were ok on the last restart. We were starting on the outside, so we had decent position. I thought we were going to get a top-five finish, but the No.3 car just drove over his head and took us out. That’s all there is to it.”
