Charlotte, N.C.(October 11, 2012) – Greg Biffle laid down a lap time of 27.877 seconds (193.708 mph) Thursday evening at Charlotte Motor Speedway claiming the pole position for Saturday night’s race. Biffle’s lap broke Elliott Sadler’s long-standing record from October of 2005 of 27.948 seconds (193.216 mph.) There are two more practice sessions Friday afternoon in which the 3M Pit Bulls can focus on getting the 3M / IDG Ford ready for 500 miles Saturday night. Be sure to tune in to ABC Saturday, October 13th at 7:00 PM ET to see all the racing action from Charlotte.
“That obviously is the fastest I’ve been around this race track, fast as anybody has, and it was a nerve-racking lap,” said Biffle. “I just couldn’t believe the speeds I was seeing and I knew when I went to take off that 29-flat was the time to beat. I knew that I struggled to run a 29.40, so I knew it was going be tough to do and I just dug deep. I drove it off into turn one and the car stuck really, really well. Three and four is where I’d been struggling and I just committed to myself that I had to drive it in there far enough and get back to the gas quick to be a factor and try to be at the top. The car was really, really good. I owe a lot to the guys working on this race car and Doug Yates and the engine shop for how hard they’ve worked on these engines to be able to put down a lap like that.”
