[img_assist|nid=1014|title=|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=400|height=268]Concord, N.C. (July 21, 2008) - While visiting family and friends at home in Washington during the off weekend, Greg Biffle made his third dirt track start and took home the trophy. The site of the momentous event was Sunset Speedway in Banks, Oregon. Biffle was able to beat out 10 of the top local dirt racers and his brother Jeff for the victory in a Jerry Schram-owned late model.
Contenders in the 20-lap event drew for their starting positions and Biffle was lucky enough to draw the pole for the start of the race. His brother, Jeff, took the outside of the front row and racing got underway on Saturday night in northern Oregon. Biffle recalls that he led the first 8-10 laps but then got out of the groove on the high side and fell back to fourth. Once he got back in the racing groove, however, it only took him about five laps to regain the lead.
Biffle held the lead for the remainder of the race despite a hard charge at the end from local stand-out Greg Walters. Biffle was able to hold Walters off in the closing laps for the win but Walters went on to win the 40-lap feature later that night.
“It was incredible to win my first dirt track race,” said Biffle. “I have only raced two other times on dirt and both of those were exhibition races against other NASCAR drivers at a 3M event at Cedar Lake Speedway in Wisconsin. This time we were out there with the local guys who race here every week and that was a lot of fun. My brother Jeff finished fifth and it was pretty cool to get to race with him. Kenny Wallace told me a couple of weeks ago dirt track racing can be addictive and I think I understand now.”
