FORT WORTH, T.X. (April 7, 2014) – Weather was once again a factor in another race weekend, moving the Duck Commander 500 from Sunday to Monday. Biffle started fourth and was a factor inside the top five and top 10 for a majority of the race. Some teams gambled pitting for just two tires before the final green-white-checkered restart, while Biffle took four tires. Those who opted for two tires narrowly edged Biffle out of a top-five finish. Biffle capped off a solid extended Texas race weekend with a sixth-place finish in his No. 16 3M ESPE Dental Give Kids a Smile Ford Fusion.
“We just have to keep getting our cars better,” said Biffle. “We’re just not where the other guys are yet, so we’ve got to keep getting better. I feel better, but it seems every week we’ve got one car that is up there. We’ll keep working on it, but this is a step in the right direction for the No. 16.”
Biffle made it to the third and final round of knockout qualifying and narrowly missed a pole starting position, settling for a fourth-place starting spot in his No. 16 3M ESPE Dental Give Kids a Smile Ford. The race started with 10 caution laps due to all the rain the previous day and an older track surface that was difficult to dry. Once the green flag waved, Biffle maintained his track position with a Ford that was a little tight.
NASCAR displayed the competition caution as the first caution flag of the day due to the rain the day before. Biffle pitted under caution for four tires and fuel. Biffle continued to struggled with grip and throughout the race receiving air pressure, track bar and wedge adjustments to help with handling.
In the closing laps Biffle was looking at a top-five finish until the caution came out with one lap remaining. The late race caution led to a green-white-checkered finish and with tires being so important nearly everyone opted to pit. Biffle received four tires while a few opted for two tires. As the green-white-checkered finish unfolded, Biffle got pinned behind a car that gambled with two tires and was passed on the last lap, resulting in a sixth-place finish.
