Biffle Narrowly Misses Talladega Victory

TALLADEGA, Ala. (May 4, 2014) – As the temperature rose into the upper 80’s Sunday afternoon at Talladega Superspeedway, Greg Biffle stayed calm, cool and collected thanks to 3M Window film in and on his No. 16 Ford.  Biffle proved to be one of the fastest cars during the race, leading the way for 58 laps.  Biffle came up one caution flag shy of a win, leaving Talladega with a second-place finish.

“That final restart Clint gave us a huge, huge push and we had a huge run at the No. 11 car,” said Biffle.  “I was backing up off of him quite a bit on the backstretch and I got probably two-and-a-half, three cars away from him and they said, ‘Caution is out.’  I was setting up to go by him, but just never had the chance.  I wish I had known we weren’t going to race all the way back, but it was a good day for us.  The car was really fast, a lot of speed, and I’m just happy to come out of here with a clean car.”

From his 36th-place starting spot, Biffle had the entire field in his view and was on a mission to the front.  Just over 30 laps into the race, Biffle teamed up with the No. 34 of David Ragan. With Ragan’s help, Biffle made his way into the top five.  On lap 50 the caution came out for debris while Biffle was sitting in fourth.  Under caution Biffle received four tires and fuel and in just two laps after the field returned to green Biffle was leading the field.

The No. 16 3M Window Film Ford led the field for a total of 58 laps during the 188 lap race, making Biffle the lap leader for the race.  Talladega is known for massive wrecks that involve many competitors and as the race continued a relatively calm race saw many cars mangled by the end.  With the help of track position, Biffle avoided the accidents and was sitting third for the green-white-checker finish.

Biffle moved his way up to second and had his focus set on taking the lead when a caution came out as the field was coming to the checkered flag.  If the race stayed green Biffle felt strongly he could have had a run at the win, but leaving Talladega with a second-place finish is a great day for the No. 16 team.
