Ft. Worth, Texas (April 14, 2013) – Ricky Stenhouse Jr. cut a left-rear tire sending him into the outside wall early in the 500-mile race at Texas Motor Speedway, causing the rookie to go numerous laps down resulting in a 40th-place finish.
“I just cut a left-rear tire down and spun,” Stenhouse said. “It’s tough to go straight when you lose a left-rear tire, I really wanted to see how our Best Buy Ford was going to drive when the sun went all the way down. I felt our Ford was coming around in the shaded parts of the track before the sun went completely down.”
“My guys did an awesome job repairing our car and getting us back out there to gain as many points as we could today. The past two weekends have been tough so I think we are all looking forward to going to Kansas.”
The two-time Nationwide champion started Saturday night’s race in the 17th- position and was consistently running in the top-20 before cutting a left-rear tire on lap 43, sending Stenhouse to the garage.
The crew worked feverishly to repair the No. 17 Best Buy Ford to get Stenhouse back out to ensure he earned as many points possible in the championship standings. He returned to the track on lap 77 where he was in the 41st position and 34 laps down.
Unable to regain some laps down due to minimal cautions, Stenhouse took the checkered flag in the 40th-position.
Stenhouse and the No. 17 team head to Kansas Speedway next weekend for the STP 400 on April 21, 2013. Race coverage starts at 1 p.m. EST on FOX. Race can also be heard on Motor Racing Network (MRN) and SIRIUS Channel 90.
