Dover, Del. (May 31, 2013) – The Roush Fenway trio of Sprint Cup drivers – Carl Edwards, Greg Biffle and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. - will start Sunday’s Sprint Cup race at Dover International Speedway from the 18th, 19th and 23rd positions based on qualifying Friday afternoon at the Monster Mile.
Carl Edwards led the RFR effort with a lap time of 23.069 (156.054 mph) in his No. 99 Subway Fusion.
“I was loose,” said Edwards. “We made a change to free it up a little bit and the track was slick and we ended up loose. If we had it to do over again I think we could have done it a little better but we just haven’t had the speed so far today. We have a lot of work to do tomorrow. We have two hours of practice and hopefully we can get it better. This is as good a track as there is for us and we have done really well here and won races. I feel very confident about this race track, we just have to get the car right.”
“It was a pretty good lap, we were just on the track with the front and there is nothing you can really do about that,” said Biffle. “The track is hot and slick which is surprising that we were on the track with the speeds being down a little bit. We were still on the track though. We struggled a little bit earlier with that and I thought we had shimmed it up enough but obviously not.”
“It was better than we were in practice, so that is positive,” said RFR rookie Ricky Stenhouse Jr. “(Crew chief) Scott (Graves) and I were just talking about it. We struggled really a lot to find some speed and some driveability and comfort.
“We made it better, we just didn’t quite make it enough,” added Stenhouse. “We have a long day to practice tomorrow and plan on running a lot of laps. I think that is something we have kind of been missing.”
The teams return to action for a pair of practice sessions on Saturday. Sunday’s 400-mile race is set for 1:00 p.m. and will be televised live on FOX.
