Edwards Dominates, Gambles on Fuel, Falls Short of Win at Pocono

Long Pond, Penn. (June 8, 2009) –The Pocono 500 weekend started out fighting with the elements and Mother Nature.  Heavy rains flooded the 2.5-mile triangle and caused NASCAR to cancel practice and qualifying for the Sprint Cup Series on Friday.  The 43-car field was set up by owner’s points and the No. 99 Aflac Ford was set to start from the 11th position.  Carl Edwards felt really good about his Aflac Ford after practice on Saturday and had the car to beat on Sunday afternoon at Pocono Raceway.  Edwards led 103 of 200 laps and dominated the majority of the race until his final pit stop. Edwards lost the battle off pit road relinquishing the lead to Tony Stewart.  Edwards fell back to second and finished there for his best finish of the season and moved up five positions in the overall Sprint Cup points standings.
