Edwards Leads RFR Qualifying Effort in Texas

Ft.Worth, Texas (April 12, 2013) – Carl Edwards led the Roush Fenway effort in Friday afternoon’s Sprint Cup qualifying at Texas Motor Speedway. Edwards will start tomorrow’s 500-mile race ninth. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. qualified 17th for his first career Cup race at TMS and Greg Biffle was 35th.

“That’s pretty good,” said Edwards. “I felt like our lap was very good. I’m very proud of it.  It was about a second faster than what we ran in practice, so the guys did a great job.  We’re hoping to get this Fastenal Fusion in Victory Lane.  It’s really fun to win these races.  (TMS track president) Eddie (Gossage) makes it a blast.  It’s a very cool place to win a race and hopefully we can get Fastenal to Victory Lane.”

“That qualifying lap felt like I had a totally different car than what we had been practicing,” said Stenhouse. “ I guess that’s what’s good about having teammates and other people in the Ford camp is you’re able to lean on them and find out some ideas for qualifying and race setups.

“All in all, it was 10 times better than where we were,” added Stenhouse. “I think we went a second faster than practice, so that was a plus.  We still have some learning to do and things to figure out, but now it’s on to the race.  We’ll see if we can learn a little bit watching this Nationwide race and then come up with a good setup for the race.  They’re not scared to try new things, so I think that’s a plus. We hadn’t run that setup we just qualified with, and it was a lot better than we were, so that’s a plus.

“I was kind of tight in the middle of three and four and had to come out of the gas,” said Biffle, who was fast in the afternoon practice session. “I had a really, really fast car, but we’ll have to come from the back.  It will be alright.”

Tomorrow’s Sprint Cup race is set for 7:30 p.m. EDT and will be televised live on FOX. RFR will go for its 10th Cup victory at TMS.
