Charlotte, N.C. (May 19, 2013) – Carl Edwards won his first pole award of the 2013 season in today’s qualifying round at Charlotte Motor Speedway, posting a fast lap of 145.55 mph and sending him to the front row for the Sprint All-Star Race.
“First of all, I don’t know if you guys noticed in practice, but it was insane,” said Edwards. “I mean, it felt like a war out there or something. It was crazy.
Everybody was trying to practice and there was really no oversight or management of all of us, so that was pretty crazy. And then real qualifying came and all everyone was talking about was how fast Kurt Busch was coming onto pit road in practice. So when he set that qualifying effort, I was pretty certain you were going to have to get pretty insane to beat that.”
The Missouri native, who claimed the all-star victory in 2011, will return for his eighth start at the Sprint All-Star Race.
Coverage of the Sprint All-Star race begins at 5:00 p.m. EST on FOX.
