ESPY Nominated McMurray Returns to Daytona to Defend Last Year's Victory

CONCORD, N.C. (July 2, 2008) - One year ago, on the final lap, Roush Fenway Racing driver Jamie McMurray radioed into his crew asking how many laps were remaining in the 160-lap event at Daytona International Speedway.  Crew chief Larry Carter replied back with, “this is it, it’s the last lap.”  McMurray and Kyle Busch came off turn four side-by-side, and raced down the frontstretch of Daytona International Speedway.  McMurray edged Busch to the line by .005 seconds, the second-closest finish in NASCAR history.  Enter 2008.
The No. 26 IRWIN Industrial Tools team enters this weekend’s Coke Zero 400 with the same IRWIN Marathon saw blades paint scheme, same determination, and even an ESPN “ESPY Award” nomination to throw into the mix.

On Tuesday morning, ESPN announced that McMurray had been nominated for a 2008 ESPY Award for Best Finish - his 2007 finish at Daytona International Speedway.  An ESPY is Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Awards.

“It’s pretty cool to be nominated for an ESPY Award,” said McMurray after hearing the news.  “Last year’s finish at Daytona with Kyle and I is what every fan hopes for when they sit in the seats or watch it on tv.  They want the race to come down to line, and last year we provided that finish for them.  It’s cool that we were nominated and now it is up to the fans to log online and vote for what their favorite moment was, and hopefully that will be our finish last year at Daytona.”

The final voting for Best Finish is now completely left up to the fans.  To vote for McMurray’s finish, along with the other ESPY nominations, fans can log onto

McMurray returns to Daytona International Speedway this weekend sporting the same paint scheme as last year - the No. 26 IRWIN Marathon with WeldTec.  The iconic paint scheme displays two large Marathon saw blades on each side, along with an IRWIN yellow flame job on McMurray’s Ford Fusion.

“I haven’t seen the paint scheme we are running this weekend since we were in the Roush museum a couple months ago,” said McMurray.  “The IRWIN Marathon with WeldTec saw blades are all about performance, which perfectly aligns with what our team stands for.  At the end of the day, it’s all about your performance.”
