Concord, NC (October 11, 2012) – Fresh off a victory last weekend, Matt Kenseth and his No. 17 Best Buy team returned to Charlotte Motor Speedway where they are the defending race winners of the Bank of America 500. Kenseth and the No. 17 Best Buy Ford will roll off seventh Saturday night under the lights for the only Saturday night race of the 2012 Chase.
Sprint Cup teams had one practice Thursday afternoon in preparation for Saturday night’s Bank of America 500. Kenseth started out practice in race trim and told his team that the car was loose. When the team switched the Best Buy Ford over to qualifying trim to get a few mock runs in towards the end of the session, the car was a bit tight in the middle of Turns 3 and 4. Kenseth ended practice third on the speed charts.
Qualifying for Sprint Cup teams began at 7:10pm on Thursday. Kenseth was the 45th of 47 cars to take to the track for his qualifying laps. The No. 17 Best Buy Ford ran a fast lap time of 27.996 seconds (XXX mph) which earned Kenseth the seventh starting position for Saturday night.
“Whenever we qualify in the top 10 I should be pleased, but I felt like we were going to have a little more than that,” commented Kenseth after his qualifying effort. “I was trying as hard as I could to go after Greg (Biffle) and I just didn’t have enough car to do it, but I’m still pleased with that. I wish we had a little more speed, but it’s still pretty good.”
The Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway will be televised on Saturday, October 11th starting at 7:00p.m. EST on ABC, with radio coverage presented by the Performance Racing Network (PRN).
