TALLADEGA, AL (October 6, 2012) – Matt Kenseth and his No. 17 team brought a special pink-themed Ford EcoBoost Fusion to Talladega Superspeedway for this weekend’s fourth race of the Chase, the Good Sam Roadside Assistance 500. Kenseth’s No. 17 was pink in support of breast cancer awareness month and the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF). Kenseth has earned three top-five finishes this season at superspeedway races including a win in the season-opening DAYTONA 500 and the team looks to continue that performance this weekend as well.
Sprint Cup teams had two practice sessions Friday and the No. 17 NBCF Ford finished fourth on the speed charts in final practice. Kenseth and the team seemed happy with the car as they prepared for qualifying.
Qualifying for Sprint Cup teams began at 11:15am on Saturday and Kenseth’s No. 17 Ford was the 22nd car to take to the track for his qualifying effort. The No. 17 NBCF Ford EcoBoost Fusion posted a fast lap time of 50.302 seconds (190.370 mph) which earned Kenseth the 15th starting position for Sunday’s 188-lap race.
“Honestly, you don’t know if you run a 49-flat or 51-flat here,” commented Kenseth after his qualifying effort. “You can’t tell in qualifying, but I was just disappointed in the speed today. We were really fast yesterday and I thought we were going to have a shot at the pole, but we just lost a ton of speed from yesterday and I have no idea why.”
The Good Sam Roadside Assistance 500 at Talladega Superspeedway will be televised on Sunday, October 7th starting at 1:00p.m. EST on ESPN, with radio coverage presented by the Motor Racing Network (MRN).
