AVONDALE, AZ (November 9, 2012) – Two races remain in the 2012 Sprint Cup Series season as teams headed west this weekend to Phoenix International Raceway for the AdvoCare 500. Matt Kenseth and his No. 17 Ford EcoBoost team entered the weekend fifth in the Chase point standings after a top-five finish at Texas last weekend. Phoenix is a relatively flat one-mile track with a unique shape to it, and with the recent repave, is a fast track for drivers where handling is always at a premium.
Cup teams had one practice session on Friday afternoon at Phoenix, and the No. 17 team unloaded the Ford EcoBoost Fusion in race trim to begin practice. During the runs in race trim, Kenseth told his team that the car was loose off the corners. The team made some adjustments before switching over to qualifying trim. In qualifying trim, the No. 17 Ford EcoBoost Fusion was a bit tight in the middle, but was mainly loose in and off the corners. Kenseth finished the first practice session of the weekend 17th on the speed charts.
Qualifying began at 4:10pm MST and Kenseth was the 28th car to make his qualifying laps. Kenseth’s Ford EcoBoost Fusion posted a fast lap time of 26.489 seconds (135.905 mph) earning him the 22nd starting spot for Sunday’s race.
The AdvoCare 500 at Phoenix International Raceway will be televised on Sunday, November 11th starting at 2:00pm EST on ESPN, with radio coverage presented by the Motor Racing Network (MRN).
