Loudon, N.H. (July 16, 2013) – After two cars tangled sending the No. 17 Best Buy Ford into the outside wall, Stenhouse battled back to salvage a 34th-place finish In Sunday’s Camping World RV 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
“We struggled a lot which was pretty disappointing,” Stenhouse said. “We came up here and tested and we felt we had a decent package to come back with. We tried getting our track position by staying out and restarting fifth on no tires and that didn’t work out for us. So then we took four tires there at the end and could make the outside work and then I think we got up to 16th and would get trapped on the bottom and you can’t get up to the top.”
“It is the first crash we have had in a long time so we are pretty lucky that we have been making it to the end of these races. It is kind of what has kept us where we are in points. We didn’t have a good car anyway today.”
The two-time Nationwide champion qualified in the 23rd -position for his first career Sprint Cup start at the ‘Magic Mile’ and consistently ranked in the top-20 for the first half of the 300-mile race.
With 65 laps remaining, the No. 10 and No. 83 machines tangled collecting Stenhouse sending his Best Buy Ford to the garage for repair. The crew worked feverishly to repair the mangled machine to get Stenhouse back out to ensure maximum points possible in the championship standings.
Stenhouse limped to the checkered flag earning a 34th-place finish.
Stenhouse and the No. 17 team have a weekend off before returning to action at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on July 28, 2013 for the Crown Royal Samuel Deeds 400. Race coverage starts at 12:00 pm EST on ESPN.
