Nashville, Tenn. (June 12, 2010) – In a race against the weather, the NASCAR Nationwide Series put on a spectacular show at Kentucky Speedway in the final 50 laps. Carl Edwards, driver of the No. 60 Fanhouse.com Ford, battled an ill-handling Ford early in the race but at the end, he was a contender for the win as he gave Joey Logano a run for his money in the closing laps. Logano went on to take the checkers with Edwards finishing second for the second week in a row.
“It feels really good,” said Edwards about his second-place run following the race. “I had him (Joey Logano) on that highline there at the end. I was hoping they weren’t telling him what I was doing but I’m sure they did. It was close.”
With sever storms rapidly approaching in the last quarter of the race; drivers became antsy bringing out a record-setting number of cautions for the night. Paul Menard was a victim under one caution when he and two others were sent spinning into the wall after going three-wide late in the race. The accident ended Menard’s night early forcing him to a 32nd-place finish.
“We had been really tight all night,” Menard said in the garage. “We took a really big swing at it on the last stop and we got better. We were all just racing hard and rain was coming so we had to go at the end. It’s unfortunate.”
Rookie Brian Ickler had two on-track incidents. First, spinning across the grass when the No. 12 had difficulty on a restart in front of him and again when he got out of the groove and backed into the wall. The No. 6 team continued to fight and Ickler drove home in 14th.
Colin Braun returned to action in the No. 16 Con-way Freight Ford and drove a clean race all night. Braun captured his second 10th-place finish in a row. A strong and consistent night for the youngster who will be right at home next week at Road America.
The NASCAR Nationwide Series debuts at Road America next Saturday, June 19. Live race action begins at 3:00 p.m. ET on ESPN.
