Qualifying Rained Out in Martinsville, Kenseth to Start 10th on Sunday

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (March 27, 2009) – Persistent rains washed out Friday afternoon’s qualifying session for Sunday’s Goody’s 500 at Martinsville Speedway, forcing NASCAR to set the starting lineup by owner points. Based on his current ranking, Matt Kenseth will start his No. 17 Ford Fusion on the outside of row five in the 10th position.

Kenseth was 43rd fastest in the morning practice session. However, with the radar forecasting heavy rain in the afternoon and on Saturday the team wisely took the opportunity to work predominately on race set up rather than qualifying trim, thus producing slower times than the cars working to qualify for the event.

The teams will attempt two more practice sessions on Saturday (10:30 – 11:15 a.m. EST and 11:50 a.m. – 12:50 p.m.) in preparation for Sunday’s race.

Kenseth has finished inside of the top 10 in three of his last four starts at Martinsville.

Green flag for Sunday’s race is set for 2:16 p.m. EST with prerace coverage slated for 2 p.m. on FOX.
