Concord, N.C. (May 28, 2009) – With the generous help of their loyal fans, Roush Fenway Racing collected 7,267 pounds of food to help local Cabarrus County food banks during “Roush Fenway Fan Days presented by Citi” held last week. The team’s original goal of 1,000 pounds was far surpassed leaving company officials proud of their efforts.
“We’re thrilled that all our fans stepped up to help in this effort along with our employees,” said Geoff Smith, president of Roush Fenway Racing. “To exceed our goal by more than 6,000 pounds is amazing and we’re happy that our labors are going to help those in need here in our community. I can’t thank our fans and employees enough for contributing to this effort.”
"We want to thank everyone at Roush Fenway Racing who made the drive possible and successful,” said Mike Wojciechowski, director of crisis assistance for CCM. “Their efforts and the generosity of all their fans are going to feed a lot of people in the Concord and Mooresville communities.”
Roush Fenway sent out a call to action asking fans to donate two cans of food in exchange for a ticket to receive autographs by Jack Roush and all eight Roush Fenway drivers. The call was answered when fans came from across the country with their non-perishable items. In droves fans and employees brought canned goods, box mixes, diapers, formula and even cash to help those in need.
