Dover, Del. (Sept. 28, 2012) – This weekend Roush Fenway Racing will look for its monumental 700th NASCAR Sprint Cup top-five finish as NASCAR rolls into the “Monster Mile” at Dover International Speedway.
The team earned its first top-five finish on April 10, 1988 at Bristol Motor Speedway, with a second-place finish that saw Mark Martin edge out future Hall-of-Famers Rusty Wallace, Bobby Allison and Richard Petty. The finish came in RFR’s sixth career NASCAR start.
"I remember earning our first top-five finish at Bristol with Mark in our first year together,” said team owner Jack Roush. “It felt like a great achievement at the time, so I never would have dreamed that in my career as an owner we'd be approaching our 700th top-five finish. We've amassed quite a record of strong finishes at Dover so I would expect that we could reach, and hopefully exceed that milestone this weekend."
As an organization Roush Fenway has totaled no less than 11 top-five finishes in any Cup season since 1989. The team set an organizational record with 61 top-five finishes in 2005, the same year it placed all five of its Sprint Cup entries inside the 10-race “Chase” for the Cup. The team scored 50 top-five Cup finishes in 2008 and 45 in 1998. Roush Fenway has totaled 30 or more top-five Sprint Cup finishes in 12 of its 24 completed seasons.
The team will look to add to those accolades this weekend at Dover, where RFR boasts 50 career top-five finishes, dating back to June 4, 1989 when the team scored a second-place finish in its third start at the “Monster Mile.”
