Roush Fenway Racing Teams Up with AAA Southern New England & Under Armour to Race Two Boston Red Sox Ford Fusions

No. 6 AAA/Red Sox Ford Fusion to Race in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series’ LENOX® Industrial Tools 301 and No. 60 Under Armour/Red Sox Ford Fusion to Compete in NASCAR’s Nationwide Camping World RV Sales 200 presented by RVs.com at New Hampshire Motor Speedway this Weekend

In Celebration, Red Sox to Host Roush Fenway Racing Day at Fenway Park on Wednesday, June 25

Boston, Mass. (June 25, 2008) – Roush Fenway Racing announced today that two Ford Fusions bearing the Boston Red Sox marks will compete at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS) in Loudon, N.H. on Saturday, June 28 and Sunday, June 29.

The No. 6 AAA/Red Sox Ford Fusion driven by Roush Fenway Racing’s David Ragan, will compete in NASCAR’s LENOX® Industrial Tools 301 Sprint Cup Race on Sunday, June 29 and the No. 66 Under Armour/Red Sox Ford Fusion driven by Roush Fenway Racing’s Carl Edwards will race in the Nationwide Camping World RV Sales 200 presented by RVs.com on Saturday, June 28. This announcement marks an evolution of last year’s successful cross-sports promotional program between NASCAR and Major League Baseball (MLB) that featured Roush Fenway Racing driver Carl Edwards racing a special No. 99 Red Sox/Lumber Liquidators/Gillette Ford in 2007’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series’ LENOX Industrial Tools 300.

As Red Sox sponsors, AAA Southern New England and Under Armour had a special opportunity to utilize Boston Red Sox marks for marketing and promotional activation at this weekend’s NASCAR races in Loudon through a regional sponsorship agreement with Roush Fenway Racing. These rights allow the two companies to leverage their association with the team to feature the Red Sox mark on the No. 6 and No. 60 cars. In addition to being featured on the Roush Fenway Racing entries, the sponsors will activate their sponsorship by tapping into Roush Fenway Racing’s public relations and marketing services to reach a broader audience of NASCAR fans.

“We are thrilled to have two world-class brands - AAA Southern New England and Under Armour - on board as Roush Fenway Racing sponsors," said Mike Dee, President of Fenway Sports Group and car owner of the No. 6 AAA/Red Sox Ford Fusion. “There is an obvious cross-over between the NASCAR fan base and Red Sox Nation. This cross-platform sponsorship program gives both companies a great opportunity to reach these audiences in a unique and powerful way by tapping into their passion and allegiances for the Boston Red Sox and Roush Fenway Racing drivers.”

AAA Southern New England is leveraging its relationship with Roush Fenway Racing and the Red Sox to increase visibility for its safe-driving programs, generate exposure for its new AAA mobile navigational application and to connect with Red Sox Nation and NASCAR fans throughout its New England territory. Earlier this week, AAA Southern New England launched a program designed to capitalize on the synergy between the Red Sox and Roush Fenway Racing fan base with the “Races & Bases” online sweepstakes. This integrated promotion provides one lucky fan with the opportunity to watch a Red Sox game with No. 6 driver Ragan and attend the September race at NHMS. Nationally, AAA is the primary sponsor of Roush Fenway Racing’s No. 6 car and the official auto insurance for International Speedway Corp. tracks.

“As the official auto club and auto insurance of the Boston Red Sox, AAA is proud to display the Red Sox logo on David Ragan’s No. 6 Ford Fusion this weekend in Loudon,” said Mark A. Shaw, President and CEO of AAA Southern New England.  “We are pleased to be associated with the Red Sox winning tradition in New England.”

Under Armour is a brand well known for aligning itself with tier-one athletes and properties in performance sports and continues this trend with its sponsorship of Carl Edwards and the No. 60 car. Edwards, who is currently fourth in the Sprint Cup point standings with three wins (California, Las Vegas and Texas), six top fives and 11 top 10 finishes, exemplifies the type of performance athlete featured in Under Armour’s award-wining marketing campaigns. Sponsorship of the No. 60 Under Armour/Red Sox Ford Fusion is an extension of Under Armour’s first foray into NASCAR. The brand featured Edwards in a 60-second Under Armour performance trainers commercial during Super Bowl XLII. In the Nationwide Series, Edwards is fourth in the standings after 17 races with one win in Milwaukee, seven top five and nine top 10 finishes. In late 2007, Edwards became the first and only NASCAR driver to sign an endorsement deal with Under Armour.

"We're very excited to be a part of a great partnership with Roush Fenway Racing, the Boston Red Sox and the No. 60 driver Carl Edwards,” said Steve Battista, Under Armour’s Senior Vice President, Brand. “The Red Sox are one of the greatest franchises in the history of sports and Carl Edwards has an outstanding record as a premier NASCAR driver. It will be an exciting moment for our brand when we see the Under Armour logo next to the iconic Red Sox logo on Carl’s No. 60 car.”

Roush Fenway Racing has a combined nine wins at NHMS across all three of NASCAR’s premier series. Ragan and Edwards are looking to add to that total this weekend.

Ragan currently sits 14th in the overall Sprint Cup point standings, two spots out of competing in the Chase for the Sprint Cup playoff format. He has two top five finishes and four top ten finishes in 2008. During Ragan’s rookie season in the Sprint Cup Series, he finished 15th and 19th at NHMS. He has also competed in two truck races and one Nationwide race at the track.

NHMS is almost a second home to Edwards who, in three Nationwide starts, has completed all the laps and finished second in 2005, won the race in 2006 (New England 200) and finished second in 2007. In the Sprint Cup Series at Loudon, he has competed in seven races and finished all but one lap. He has an average starting position of 19th and an average finishing position of 13th.

In celebration of the preeminent NASCAR event in New England, the Boston Red Sox will host Roush Fenway Racing Day at Fenway Park Wednesday, June 25 as the Red Sox take on the Arizona Diamondbacks. Festivities will include a special pre-game ceremony that will recognize Roush Fenway Racing drivers and owners, Jack Roush and John W. Henry.

For the second time in two years, NESN will broadcast the pre-game festivities live from Fenway Park and reinforce New England Sports Ventures’ (NESV) commitment to NASCAR in New England. NESN has several other NASCAR initiatives throughout the NASCAR weekend at NHMS, including various on-site broadcasts at the Magic Mile.
