Concord, N.C. (June 18, 2006) - When you’re a racer, there’s no such thing as an off weekend. The ARCA RE/MAX Series will take a break from the action this weekend but Roush Fenway Racing rookie, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. will not. A former USAC stand-out, Stenhouse will tackle the seventh annual Knoxville Midget Nationals this weekend looking for his second title.
“It was pretty cool to win there last year,” said Stenhouse, who is the defending 2007 Knoxville Midget Nationals champion. “I started on the front row with my teammate Levi Jones (both drivers raced for Tony Stewart Racing) and we led every lap. There was a caution coming off turn four for the checkered so we had a green/white/checkered finish which was a little nerve racking because our car didn’t take off that well but I was able to hang on for the win.”
Stenhouse currently leads the ARCA RE/MAX Series point standings by 95 over Scott Speed. He has put together six top-10 finishes over the last six races and after nine starts, remains the only ARCA driver to have multiple wins (Kentucky and Pocono) in 2008. This weekend the youngster looks to add to his accolades becoming a repeat winner at the storied Knoxville Raceway. The .5-mile dirt-oval is rich in history and Stenhouse wants to leave his mark in the history annals.
“I like Knoxville, it’s a big, fast track.” Stenhouse continued, “You can run the top and the bottom and the racing is always good there. I ran right around the top the entire time last year but that may change this weekend. I’m racing in Don Fike’s No. 32 this weekend which should be pretty fast. They were running second to us last year before they cut a tire down at the end. It would be pretty cool to be a repeat winner there.”
The Knoxville Midget Nationals will take place June 20 and 21 at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa. Both days of competition will stream live via pay-per-view on www.racenetwork.tv.
