Concord, N.C. (Oct. 12, 2012) –Ricky Stenhouse Jr. earned a solid seventh-place finish at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Friday’s Dollar General 300. The finish was Stenhouse’s 22nd top-10 Nationwide Series finish of the 2012 season and his third top-10 finish out of seven starts at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
“I got in the wall on the first lap of that run and bent the spoiler back a little bit,” said Stenhouse. “We were running third there and came in and tried to fix it at the last second. We lost a bunch of track position and the car didn’t drive as well in the back in traffic as it was when we were running up front. The Cargill Beef Mustang was a little bit better today, but we just made a mistake on a pit stop. We’ll go back and get them next week at Kansas. We’ll just keep pushing forward. It’s disappointing at times, but there are four races left, so there’s still a lot of time.”
The Olive Branch, Mississippi native started in the fourth-position and quickly maneuvered his No. 6 Cargill Beef Ford to the top of the leader board by lap 16. As the laps progressed, his machine tightened forcing him to relinquish the lead.
After several chassis adjustments, the 2010 NASCAR Nationwide Rookie of the Year was steadily running in the top-three before making contact with the wall bending the spoiler. During a routine pit-stop on lap 133, the crew tried straightening the spoiler resulting in a loss of seven spots on pit-road.
The 2011 Nationwide Champion restarted in the 10th-position on the final restart and slowly finessed his way forward but ran out of time taking the checkered flag in the seventh-position.
With four races remaining in the NASCAR Nationwide season, Stenhouse is currently second in the NNS point standings; 13 markers behind Elliott Sadler.
Stenhouse and the No. 6 team travel to Kansas Speedway next weekend for the Kansas Lottery 300 on Saturday, October 20. Coverage will begin at 3 p.m. (EST) on ESPN. The race can also be heard on SIRIUS radio channel 90.
