Stenhouse Finishes 16th at Bristol Despite Starting in the Back

Bristol, Tenn. (March 18, 2013) –  Despite starting from the rear of the field due to an engine change on Friday, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. steadily maneuvered his Best Buy Ford through the field to claim a 16th-place finish in Sunday’s Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway; currently sits 10th in the Sprint Cup standings tied with Kyle Busch.

“We ended up working our way to the front,” Stenhouse said. “On one run we passed a lot of cars and got into the 12th -position but then I got into the wall. I got a little loose on entry and that kind of ruined our day. We had to fight back and fix the damage so the Best Buy Ford wasn’t quite as good after that but, all in all, to start last and finish 16th is not terrible for us.”

The two-time Nationwide champion qualified in the 28th-position for the Food City 500 at the World’s Fastest half-mile but was forced to start at the rear of the field after the No. 17 team changed engines on Friday.  The rookie bullied his way up to the 12th – position before the race reached the half-way point of the 500 lap race.

Shortly after the half-way point, Stenhouse made slight contact with the wall disturbing the handling of his Best Buy Ford. Despite the damage, the Olive Branch, Miss. native stayed on the lead lap and took the checkered flag in the 16th-position.

Next up for Stenhouse and the No. 17 team is the Auto Club 400 at Auto Club Speedway on Sunday, March 24. Race coverage begins at 2:30p.m. EST on FOX. Coverage can also be heard on MRN and SIRIUS radio channel 90.
