Long Pond, Pa.(August 5, 2013) – After a lap one incident with Juan Pablo Montoya which sent the Zest Ford to the garage for repair, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. fought back to a 34th – place finish in Sunday’s GoBowling.com 400 at Pocono Raceway.
“The 42 got us three wide and I moved up to give him a whole lane and he just drove into us,” Stenhouse said. “I was hoping everyone would stay in line since we didn’t have much track time this weekend but it didn’t play out that way.
I thought we had a good car on Friday and felt more comfortable coming back here after the spring race but we didn’t get a chance to see that. I have to give my guys credit because they repaired our machine and we were running lap times close to the leaders. By getting our Zest Ford back out on the track, we were able to pick up nine positions so that is what we have to do for the point standings.”
The two-time Nationwide champion lined up in the 17th-position for Sunday’s 400 mile race but as he entered turn one, the No. 42 machine made it three wide sliding up into the rookie sending him into the outside wall.
Bringing his Zest Ford to the garage for repair, the No. 17 crew worked feverishly to repair the machine to get Stenhouse back out and maximize as many points possible for his position in the point standings. He returned to the track on lap 48; he was in the 43rd position and 47 laps down.
With a multitude of cautions, the Olive Branch, Miss. native was able to gain nine positions before taking the checkered flag in the 34th-position
Stenhouse and the No. 17 team travel to Watkins Glen for the second road course race of the 2013 Sprint Cup Series season. The Cheez-It 355 will air live on August 11, 2013 on ESPN at 1 pm EST.
