Concord, N.C. (May 17, 2012) - Ricky Stenhouse Jr. travels to Iowa Speedway this weekend, a track that has produced several milestones for the 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Champion. “Iowa Speedway has been a great track for my career,” Stenhouse said. “I have accomplished a couple of firsts there in my NASCAR career. I got my first Nationwide pole there in 2009 and my first Nationwide win there last spring. It was an incredible feeling to win both races there last year. I am looking forward to defending our title this weekend and hopefully making it three in a row at Iowa.”
Last year, the champion earned his first career NASCAR Nationwide win at the 7/8-mile track by winning the Iowa John Deere Dealers 250 on May 22, 2011. When he returned to Iowa in August for the second race that season, Stenhouse completed the sweep in grand fashion in front of a sold-out crowd. The race produced one of the sport’s most memorable finishes of all time when RFR teammate Carl Edwards knocked Stenhouse’s No. 6 Ford Mustang across the finish line and to the win with both Fords sliding out of control. Stenhouse became the first driver to sweep both races at Iowa in a single season.
In 2009, the Olive Branch, Miss. native claimed his first Nationwide career pole at Iowa Speedway in only his seventh-career Nationwide Series.
The Pioneer Hi-Bred 250 will be Sunday, May 20 at Iowa Speedway. Live coverage will begin at 1:30 p.m. (EST) on ESPN.
