Stenhouse Scores Best Finish of the 2013 Season at Kansas

Kansas City, Kan. (April 23, 2013) – After leading a career high 26 laps in the STP 400 at Kansas Speedway, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. settled for an 11th-place finish after an unlucky caution was displayed one lap after he forfeited the lead for  a scheduled green flag pit-stop. Stenhouse will donate $100/lap he led during the STP 400 to www.OneFundBoston.org

“It was fun,” Stenhouse said with a grin. “We started up front, ran up front, lost our track position and then got it back and was able to lead some laps. We pitted under green and it really got us when the caution came out, but, all in all, we had a great weekend. The Zest Ford Fusion was the one to beat there at the end, but we didn’t have the track position to finish it off. I think we can take a lot of positives from this weekend. It was cool to lead some laps and be able to donate a little something to OneFundBoston.”

The Sprint Cup rookie surrendered the lead when he brought his No. 17 Zest Ford to pit-road on lap 217 as green flag pit-stops cycled through the field. Stenhouse was heading back out on the track when the caution was displayed for debris leaving Stenhouse one lap down. The Olive Branch, Miss. native was the first car one lap down granting him the lucky dog and back on the lead lap.

On the final restart with less than 50 laps remaining, Stenhouse bullied his way up through the field overtaking the 11th-position before the checkered flag finally waved.

The two-time Nationwide Champion ha d his best qualifying effort of the season on Friday with a third-place starting position for Sunday’s race. The rookie consistently ran in the top-10 before differences in pit strategy shuffled him back, but as the race progressed the No. 17 Zest Ford Fusion quickly charged back to the front of the pack.

Next up for Stenhouse and the No. 17 team is the Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond International Raceway on Saturday, April 27. Race coverage begins at 7:00p.m.on FOX. Coverage can also be heard on MRN and SIRIUS radio channel 90.
