Stenhouse Starts 22nd in Fifth Third Ford at Michigan

Brooklyn, Mich. (August 16, 2013) – At the home track of Roush Industries and Ford Motor Company, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. qualified 22nd for Sunday’s Pure Michigan 400 at Michigan International Speedway.

“We were really loose,” Stenhouse said afterwards. ”A lot looser than we had been earlier. I think it is a positive that we made some gains on it but I wish we would have nailed it a little better than that. I thought it drove, as far as balance, a little worse than practice but we still went faster so that is a positive. Overall we will keep working on our Fifth Third Ford tomorrow and see if we can get it better for the race.”

The No. 17 team had one practice session on Friday afternoon to get the No. 17 Fifth Ford Fusion dialed in for qualifying. After focusing on qualifying runs the entire practice, the two-time NASCAR Nationwide Champion finished the first practice session in the 23rd - position after battling a tight condition for the duration of the practice.

With cloud coverage, the Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year contender was the ninth car to take to the track for his qualifying effort.  The No. 17 Fifth Third Ford Fusion posted a fast lap time of 35.890 seconds (200.613 mph) around the two-mile track earning Stenhouse the 22nd -starting position for Sunday’s 400-mile race.

The Pure Michigan 400 at Michigan International Speedway will be televised on Sunday, August 18 starting at 1:00 p.m. EST on ESPN, with radio coverage presented by the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and SIRIUS radio channel 90.
