Hey race fans!
"I hope everyone had a great Easter weekend and that you all are doing well. As much as I love the Easter season, I was having 'Cup withdrawals' on Sunday with no race. But NASCAR has never raced on Easter Sunday, and for good reason. I hope the drivers and crews had a chance to relax and take some time off amongst a very busy racing schedule. At least there was a Nationwide race to watch on Saturday from Nashville, and kudos to Carl Edwards for bringing home a top-five finish and maintaining the points lead. Now it's on to Phoenix for both races this weekend.
"Phoenix is definitely an interesting one-mile, flat track to race on. The track isn't really the same in any spot, and has very small banking (11 degrees in turns 1-2, and 9 degrees in turns 3-4), making the handling of the car critical. I'm sure setting up the cars for Phoenix is a challenge to crew chiefs, but I am confident the Roush Fenway crews will find the right combinations to use on Friday and Saturday. I think that with solid pit stops by the pit crews and good track position, one of the Roush Fenway Racing teams will have a chance at getting to victory lane. The Roush drivers generally have run well at this track over the last five years, so the fans should expect much of the same this weekend.
"With that said, my favorite for the weekend is Carl Edwards, and Mackenzie (pictured), another one of my terrific fifth graders, picks Matt Kenseth as her favorite. Both have had mainly solid results here in the last several seasons while racing for Jack Roush. With Carl's average finish of 13th place and new associate sponsor Subway on the car, he would be my pick to win for the very first time in the Cup Series at Phoenix. Mackenzie quotes, ‘The reason I want Matt Kenseth and the #17 DEWALT Tools Ford to win the race in Phoenix is because he is my favorite driver for one, and also, Mr. Ritt has told me a lot about him, and I just think he has a good chance of winning.’
"There you have it, a vote of confidence for Matt and Carl this weekend at Phoenix. As always, good luck to all of the Roush Fenway Racing teams this weekend, and may one of them bring home a victory in the desert!"
Go fast, turn left!
