American Diabetes Association Illinois Youth Ambassador Evey Evans to ‘Ride with Ryan’

CONCORD, N.C. (September 14, 2015) – American Diabetes Association® Youth Ambassador Evey Evans will ride along with Roush Fenway Racing driver Ryan Reed during Saturday night’s NASCAR XFINITY Series race at Chicagoland Speedway. The Bourbonnais, Ill. native will have her name featured on a decal above the passenger-side window on the No. 16 Lilly Diabetes American Diabetes Ford Mustang.

Evans was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2010 right before her ninth birthday. Like Reed, Evans serves as an inspiration to the diabetes community, encouraging other kids to chase their dreams through her involvement with the American Diabetes Association. She started by attending Association Diabetes Camp, where she realized she wanted to help other kids living with the disease.

As the 2015 Illinois Youth Ambassador for the American Diabetes Association, Evans shares her story with others living with diabetes at Camp and other events and programs such as the 2015 American Diabetes Association Chicago EXPO®. She is also an avid fundraiser for the Tour de Cure® cycling event and attends Triangle D Diabetes Camp. She also maintains a blog, detailing her involvement at these American Diabetes Association events.

She knows that staying active is an important part of managing her diabetes. She recently participated in the World Championships with her softball team. She also plays volleyball, basketball and soccer. Evans’ dream for the next five years is to be even more involved with the Association and make a difference in people’s lives on an even larger scale.

“Evey’s efforts in the diabetes community to show other kids they can live a normal life while living with diabetes are awesome,” said Reed. “It’s obvious that she truly wants to make a difference because of the amount of time she commits to blogging and attending events in the diabetes community. I can’t wait to get back on track this weekend at Chicagoland and make Evey and everyone that supports the Drive to Stop Diabetes program proud.”

Ryan Reed and the ‘Riding with Ryan’ program roll into Chicagoland Speedway this weekend for the second time this season. Reed finished 12th in the NASCAR XFINITY Series race at the track in June after winning the ARCA Racing Series event the previous night.

The NASCAR XFINITY Series takes the green flag from Chicagoland on Saturday, September 19th at 6 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Network and MRN.
