Bayne Finishes 34th in Rain-Shortened Race in Phoenix
AVONDALE, Ariz. (Nov. 15, 2015) – Trevor Bayne, driver of the No. 6 AdvoCare Ford Fusion, finished in the 34th position on Sunday night in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) event at Phoenix International Raceway after rain halted the race after 219 of the scheduled 312 laps.
“We’re ready for Homestead,” said Bayne after the race. “It’s a big weekend for Ford with it being Ford Championship Weekend. We’re excited to get there and end this season on a strong note with our AdvoCare Ford.”
Bayne began the penultimate race of the 2015 NSCS season from the 26th position after rain delayed the start of the event for almost seven hours. From the drop of the green flag, Bayne reported to crew chief Bob Osborne that the AdvoCare Ford was really loose on entry and exit of the corner while tight through the middle.
Osborne utilized a Lap 40 competition caution to bring the AdvoCare Ford to pit road for four tires and a chassis adjustment in the hopes of alleviating the handling condition. Returning to the track in 32nd, Bayne continued to battle for position as a long green flag run ensued before bringing the Roush Fenway Ford back to pit road during a round of green flag pit stops on Lap 120.
Unfortunately, this pit stop proved costly as Bayne was cited for speeding on pit road and was forced to return to the pits for a pass-thru penalty. Bayne returned to the track following the penalty in the 37th position but was able to work his way up to 34th before the caution came out again on Lap 195.
The field would never see the green flag again and the skies opened up during this caution, ultimately leading to a red flag and for NASCAR to cancel the remainder of the race on Lap 219. Bayne was scored with a 34th-place finish.
Next up for the NSCS is the 2015 season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Sunday, Nov. 22.
