Carl Edwards captured his first pole since August, 2008 at Bristol with a fast lap time of 70.882 (124.432 mph) at Watkins Glen Saturday afternoon. Edwards discussed sitting on the pole and the reversal of fortune recently for the Roush Fenway organization in a post qualifying press conference. "This is unbelievable. I can't tell you how much this helps our team and our confidence. I couldn't believe it when Bob said P1. I thought he said P21 or something. Man that was a great lap.
Elmira, N.Y. (August 7, 2010) – Watkins Glen International took a big bite out of the Roush Fenway Ford’s today. The biggest bite came on lap 22 as the field went three and four wide through turn one on a restart. Contact between the No. 38 and No. 16 caused a chain reaction accident that claimed 10 cars, including the No. 6 Ford of Billy Johnson. Colin Braun was able to drive away and continued to race several laps down finishing 26th while Johnson’s day ended on lap 23 placing him 36th in his NASCAR Nationwide debut.
Concord, N.C. (Aug. 4, 2010) – During the past two mid-summer months Roush Fenway Racing has seen its weekly race-finish average climb from 22.7 to 9.0 in a six-race span that may very well define the organization’s 2010 season. During that time, in the last three races Roush Fenway garnered finishes of second at Chicagoland and third at Indianapolis, before finally climbing over the hump and into victory lane last weekend with Greg Biffle’s emotional win at Pocono.
Last week at Iowa Speedway, Edwards finished an impressive 10th after starting 16th in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. This weekend Carl will make his sixth Nationwide Series start at Watkins Glen International Saturday afternoon hopefully bringing Edwards’ his 50th in NASCAR. Zippo 200 at the Glen
Carl Edwards enters Watkins Glen 10th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup point standings, 414 markers behind point leader Kevin Harvick, but is 136 points ahead of Mark Martin in 13th. He has three top-five and 10 top-10 finishes this season. Carl will make his sixth Cup start at Watkins Glen this weekend. In his previous five starts, Edwards has accumulated two top-five and four top-10 finishes. He has an average start of 14.6 and finish of 8.8 there.
