Close Racing In Talladega Earns Buescher A Sixth-Place Finish

TALLADEGA, Ala. (May 3, 2015) – Roush Fenway Racing’s Chris Buescher raced up front for the majority of Saturday afternoon’s NASCAR XFINITY Series race at Talladega Superspeedway.  In the closing laps Buescher was in position, battling for the lead, before crossing the finish line in sixth in his No. 60 Bit-O-Honey Ford Mustang.

“This Bit-O-Honey Ford Mustang was fast today,” said Buescher.  “We knew it was good in the draft.  We had a good chance out there.  It just didn’t quite work out.  The 33 [Austin Dillon] did a heck of a job pushing us there, and honestly it would have been enough, but we just got a block thrown on us there at the end.  A lot of things could have gone a little bit better there at the end and a lot of things could have gone a lot worse, so not a bad day for us.”

After Saturday morning’s qualifying session, Buescher lined up 12th in his Bit-O-Honey Ford Mustang, for 113 Laps of racing at the 2.66-mile superspeedway.  By the time the caution flew on Lap 2, Buescher found himself in the lead.

The Prosper, Texas native would not stray too far from the front during the opening laps of the race.  Buescher made a green flag pit stop from third-place on Lap 35 for four tires, fuel and no adjustments.

The caution flew just four laps later as the cycle of green flag pit stops neared completion.  After restarting 10thon Lap 46, Buescher found himself racing for position in the middle of the pack.

As another round of green flag pit stops neared, the caution flew after a multi-car accident as cars tried to enter pit road.  Buescher made his way down pit road under caution for right side tires, fuel and no adjustments.

The two-tire strategy gained Buescher several positions, lining up sixth for the restart on Lap 81.  In the closing laps, Buescher put himself in position, battling for the lead.  The No. 60 Bit-O-Honey Ford Mustang would ultimately cross the finish line in sixth.

With the result, Buescher gains one position and is second in the NASCAR XFINITY Series point standings, just nine points out of the lead.  The series will return to action at Iowa Speedway after an off weekend.
