Colin Braun Bio
At just 19 years of age, Colin Braun (pronounced "brown") is one of motorsports' rising stars. Racing since the age of six, Braun is the complete package showing professionalism, versatility, commitment and passion both on and off the track.
Braun, whose father was an engineer for professional race teams, caught the racing bug at an early age. His racing career began at age six when he started racing Quarter Midgets in his home state of Texas. At age eight he moved into Karts driving for factory teams in not only the U.S. but in Italy, Monaco and Japan as well. He won multiple national Karting championships before moving into formula cars at age 14.
At 14, Braun became the youngest driver in U.S. history to win a professional Formula car race. In addition, he won eight of 11 races, took Rookie-of-the-Year honors and won the 1600 Fran-Am Championship. Once he conquered Formula cars, it was on to the Grand Am division.
In his first year as a Grand Am driver, at age 16, Braun raced in the 24-Hours of Daytona for Team 16 Porsche GT finishing seventh in his class. That same year, Braun went down in the history books as the youngest Rolex Daytona Prototype driver. In 2006, at the age of 17, Braun won the Brumos 250 at Daytona International Speedway driving for Krohn Racing in the Grand Am Rolex Daytona Prototype Series. In addition to winning the pole, he also went on to pick up win number two in the series at Barber Motorsports Park that same year. Braun capped off the 2006 season by finishing fourth in the Rolex driver points despite missing three races due to a tobacco sponsorship that had age restrictions.
Braun has also seen his share of the media spotlight in his young career. He's made appearances on ESPN's "Cold Pizza"; Fox News' "Fox and Friends" and MTV's "True Life." In 2004 he was featured in Racer magazine as one of the top-five young drivers of the year and in 2006 was featured in Car and Driver and Automobile Magazine. In 2007 Braun was presented with Racer magazines "Rookie-of-the-Year" award as voted on by Speed TV and Racer magazine fans. Braun beat out fellow rookies Marco Andretti (IRL), Denny Hamlin (NASCAR NEXTEL Cup), Robert Kubica (Formula One), Dan Clark (Champ Car) and drivers from drag racing and USAC midgets. He even made an appearance as a guest commentator on Speed Channel for two Rolex races in 2006.
When he’s not racing, Braun enjoys spending time at his family's ranch in Texas with his parents and younger brother, where they have a full-size go kart track, ride four-wheelers, and shoot skeet and trap. In addition to race cars, Braun also has a passion for flying and he's currently working towards getting his pilot's license. To stay in shape, Braun enjoys riding his mountain bike and lifting weights.
Over the last 13 years, in his quest to become a Sprint Cup driver, Braun has won not only races but championships and looks to continue that tradition with Roush Fenway Racing. In 2007 Braun ran three races in the ARCA/ReMax Series with Roush Fenway, all resulting in top-10 finishes. He also made one start in both the NASCAR Craftsman Truck and Nationwide Series. Braun will assume full-time duties in 2008 in the Craftsman Truck Series, driving the No. 6 Con-way Ford F-150 with veteran crew chief Mike Beam.
