Majeski Finishes 34th at Roval After Late Accident
CONCORD, N.C. (September 29, 2018) – Ty Majeski had a strong start to the inaugural NASCAR Xfinity Series event at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval, but once again luck was not with the No. 60 team as an incident in the final stage of the race sent the Ford Performance Mustang to the garage. A herculean effort by the entire crew got Meski back on the track in the closing laps of the race, but he was ultimately relegated to a 34th-place finish.
“It’s really unfortunate,” said Majeski. “These guys work so hard, and we just haven’t had a lot of good fortune this year. The cars are getting faster and I know we’re on the cusp of some really great finishes.”
Majeski started the race from the eighth position after advancing to the final round of qualifying Saturday morning. He immediately began to move forward, advancing as high as sixth, but he picked up minor damage avoiding a slowing car on the second lap of the 55-lap race. He would spin from a top-ten position on lap 6, ultimately settling into the 17th spot by the end of stage one.
Crew chief Mike Kelley played the strategy game in stage two, bringing Majeski to pit road just two laps before the end of the segment. Majeski was scored 21st at the end of stage two, but restarted eighth for the final segment thanks to the strategy call.
Unfortunately, the momentum was deterred when Majeski was damaged on the ensuing restart as the No. 11 car hit an outer retaining wall and slid back down into the No. 60 Mustang. Majeski was saddled with severe damage, and his team worked furiously to repair the car. Kelley was forced to call Majeski into the garage on lap 42, where the team worked to return the car’s steering to normal. Majeski returned to the track on lap 49 and was ultimately scored with a 34th-place finish.
