Concord, N.C. (March 11, 2010) – It’s rare to have a weekend off during the NASCAR Nationwide season let alone two straight. However, that is what Ricky Stenhouse Jr. is in the midst of. And while he hasn’t been turning laps in his No. 6 CitiFinancial Ford Fusion, he has been going 100 miles an hour away from the track. Recently, the Roush Fenway Racing rookie slowed down just enough to let us into his world during the two off weekends.
Q: Since racing in Las Vegas back in February, what have you done with your off time?
A: “Well, the Monday after Vegas, I had my wisdom teeth out so that slowed me down a little bit. I was able to go the race shop and be with the guys which is something I like to do and it also took my mind off of the surgery. They are still sore but if we can get some good finishes starting in Bristol that will help a lot.”
Q: You took a road trip to Daytona with some friends how was that?
A: “It was a lot of fun. I went there with a couple of friends for the SuperCross event. It was cool to see Daytona in a whole different way. The place was packed. I was lucky enough to be right in the middle of the action and it kind of gave me the itch to buy a bike but I think I’m going to stick with my No. 6 CitiFinancial Ford Fusion. Being able to have these two weeks off to go out and be yourself without any pressure is fun.”
Q: The ESPN cameras will be rolling this week – what are you going to be doing?
A: “Well, something about steer wrestling or something like that (laughs). Last year I rode a bull so we’re going to try and top that. My buddy Shane (Proctor) is a professional bull rider and is going to show me the ropes. ESPN is going to feature me on the pre-race show before Texas. I have a lot of friends that are cowboys so I just hope I do them right. It’s going to be a lot of fun so stay tuned.”
