Sadler Finishes Ninth at Dover International Speedway

DOVER, De. (Oct. 3, 2015) – Roush Fenway Racing’s Elliott Sadler finished ninth during Saturday’s NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) race at Dover International Speedway. Sadler started 10th as the field was set by owners points due to the rainout of qualifying.  The OneMain Financial Ford Mustang remained in the top 10 for the majority of the race.  A pit strategy to take two tires put Sadler at the front of the field for a brief rain delay on lap 114.  When the race resumed, Sadler was able to maintain a top-10 finish despite the rest of the frontrunners having four fresh tires.  The ninth place finish moves Sadler up to fifth in the drivers point standings.

“It was a big weekend for OneMain Financial and I’m glad we were able to bring home a ninth-place finish,” Sadler said after the race. “My No. 1 OneMain Financial Ford crew did a great job preparing me with a fast car right off the truck, which was extremely beneficial since we didn’t have any track time before the start of the race. We’re back in the top-five in driver points and I’m looking forward to next week, when I get race my pink car at Charlotte Motor Speedway.”

Rain caused the cancelation of all on-track activity on Friday which included NXS qualifying.  Per the NASCAR rulebook, the field was set by the current owners point standings which put Sadler on the outside of row five for the green flag.

Early in the race, Sadler reported that he felt the splitter was hitting the track so during the first caution on lap 15 he brought the OneMain Financial Ford to pit road for adjustments.  As most teams opted not to pit, he restarted 25th.

By lap 50, Sadler had made his way back into the top 10 and remained there through the halfway point of the race.  He was running eighth when a caution and eventual red flag came out for rain.  The team brought him to pit road for two tires, minor adjustments and fuel.  The decision put Sadler at the front of the field as racing halted for rain on lap 114.

The rain made an untimely departure and shortly after the restart on lap 118, Sadler began to lose positions to drivers with four tires.  Despite the disadvantage, however, he was able to hold on for a ninth-place finish in the OneMain Financial Ford.

The NASCAR XFINITY Series and Sadler’s No. 1 OneMain Financial Ford Mustang will be back in action next week at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Friday night.
