RFR driver credits training, AdvoCare with increased physical and mental focus
CONCORD, N.C. (April 23, 2014) – While the majority of his fellow NASCAR competitors enjoyed a relaxing Easter weekend off, Roush Fenway Racing’s Trevor Bayne embarked on a different type of race. Rather than ‘kicking back’ on an exotic sandy beach down south, the 2011 Daytona 500 winner chose to push his mind and body to the limits in the TryCharleston sprint triathlon. In what was only his second sprint-tri, Bayne finished first in his age group (male 20-24), posting a personal best time of 1:10:21.
“It was a lot of fun,” said Bayne. “The weather didn’t really cooperate, so it was pretty much like every race we have ran this year with NASCAR. We are definitely bringing it with us.
“But, it went well. I won my age group – which was cool – and definitely improved my sprint-tri time. I improved my time by 12 minutes from my first event in Key West, and ended up 30th overall, which is pretty good out of over 200 people.”
The sprint triathlon event consists of a 750-meter swim, a 20K-bike ride and a 5K-run.
Bayne - who has six top-10 finishes in seven NASCAR Nationwide Series starts this season - says his consistent training regimen has also paid dividends behind the wheel of his No. 6 AdvoCare Ford Mustang this season.
“I think the more physically and mentally sharp you can be in the race car the better off you are,” said Bayne. “I think the training has gotten me much more physically fit for the race.
“If you can run or ride your bike or run outside for a couple of hours, it really helps you stay sharp focused as well,” added Bayne. “You are mentally stronger at the end of the race and you are able to make good decisions throughout the race.”
Bayne credits the training as well as his consistent use of AdvoCare products with his new found edge.
“I don’t feel beat after the races at all,” said Bayne. “A lot of that has to do with the AdvoCare products I take. I take Rehydrate gels during the race, a Spark before the race and a Post-Workout Recovery Sports drink after. It helps a ton in the racecar and with the sprint-tri training.”
Bayne will return to his normal form of racing this weekend when the NASCAR Nationwide Series returns to action at Richmond International Raceway. Friday night’s race is set for 7:00 p.m. and will be televised live on ESPNews. He boasts two top-five and three top-10 finishes in six starts at the .75-mile track.
