Engine Change Forces Biffle to Forfeit 2nd-Place Qualifying Effort in California

Fontana, Calif. (March 23, 2013) – During the first run, of the first practice session here at Auto Club Speedway, the 3M Window Film Ford’s engine gave out.  The 3M Pit Bulls were able to get a new engine in the 3M Window Film Ford with five minutes left in practice.  Biffle was then able to make one run at the end of practice with the new engine before qualifying.  One run proved to be all Biffle needed.  Biffle made his way around the 2.0-mile Auto Club Speedway in 38.548 seconds, earning a second-place starting position.  Despite the lost track time Biffle was still able to qualify second, which will give him a good pit stall for the race on Sunday.  Unfortunately due to the engine change he’ll have to drop to the back of the field for the start of 200-lap race.

“We went through a lot of work after getting only a few laps on the race track,” said Biffle. “That was a heck of a lap and the guys had to have this car just right to do that. That hopefully won’t hurt us for the race. We have all day tomorrow but lost a tremendous amount of track time today and the guys worked really hard to change this engine out and obviously the new one is running really good.”

Be sure to tune into FOX this Sunday, March 24th to see the Auto Club 400, pre-race coverage begins at 2:30pm ET.
