Richmond, Va. (April 29th, 2013) – Greg Biffle started Saturday night’s Richmond race from the back in the 33rd position, but was optimistic about his Ford in race trim. Just as Biffle was marching up through the field, the team discovered a broken shock when attempting a left-front shim adjustment. Multiple pit stops later Biffle was back on the track, but 15 laps down to the field. Biffle salvaged a 36th-place finish, but dropped to eighth in the point standings.
From his 33rd starting position Biffle slowly worked his way through the field with a car that lacked front grip. Wedge and air pressure adjustments seemed to help the handling of the American Red Cross Ford. When the caution was displayed on lap 158, crew chief Matt Puccia called for four tires, fuel and a left-front shim adjustment. In attempting to pull the shim from the shock is when the team discovered a major problem.
In an effort to stay on the lead lap Biffle came down pit road several times for minor adjustments under the caution and took the green flag in the 32nd – position on lap 168. The broken shock prevailed and by lap 211 he was passed by the leaders. A few laps later Biffle had his hands full and spun out on the front stretch, bringing out the caution.
Biffle once again made multiple visits to pit road, but needed additional time to make the No. 16 handle well. The team made the necessary adjustments and Biffle returned to the track in the 39th- position, 15 laps down to the leaders. The 3M Pit Bulls never gave up and Biffle picked up a few more spots to ultimately finish 36th.
In a last lap charge to the checkered flag Kevin Harvick took home the win. Clint Bowyer, Joey Logano, Juan Pablo Montoya and Jeff Burton rounded out the top five. Next up is restrictor-plate racing from Talladega Superspeedway. Pre-race coverage beings at 12:00pm ET on Fox.
