Strong Finish For Edwards at Michigan

Brooklyn, M.I. (June 17, 2013) – Today, Carl Edwards returned to Roush Fenway Racing’s home track looking to accomplish the 23rd win at Michigan International Raceway and Ford’s 1000th win. As the pole sitter for today’s Quicken Loans 400, Carl Edwards in the No. 99 Fastenal Ford started today’s race as the front runner, but an untimely caution after a green-flag stop tampered with his track position.  Edwards made a stellar comeback for an impressive eighth-place finish.

“I think seeing those Fords up front today really was a statement that we’re moving in the right direction,” said Edwards.  “There’s a lot of momentum and for us this is good. We need to get better and faster to be able to compete, especially with the No. 48 right now in the chase. Hopefully this is a turn in the right direction.”

The No. 99 Fastenal Ford was shuffled back to fifth-place upon the start of the race, but Edwards proved the Ford’s strength as he held composure in the top-10 for most of the 200-lap race. The No. 99 Blue Team focused on handling issues for Edwards, consistently tweaking track bar adjustments and helping Edwards maintain competitive edge under sunny track conditions.

As the last 50 laps were nearing, Edwards came in for a green-flag stop to clear debris from his grill, get a fresh set of tires and make one last track bar adjustment. Soon after exiting pit road, a final caution went out leaving Edwards in an unlucky 24th-place for the restart with just 27 laps remaining.

Despite unfortunate timing for the green-flag stop, Edwards was able to rally the No. 99 Fastenal Ford, climbing up 11 spots within the next ten laps. Edwards pushed the Ford to ninth-place at the white flag and slid into eighth-place after Jimmie Johnson in the No. 48 hit the wall before the checkered flag.

Edwards remains second in the series points’ standings, now just 31 points behind leader Jimmie Johnson. Edwards returns to the track in the No. 99 Aflac Ford at Sonoma Raceway next Sunday, June 23rd at 3 p.m. EST on TNT.
