Well Charlotte race week has come and gone. We finished sixth in our Crown Royal Black Ford so I’m pretty happy with the finish. The highlight of the night was where we finished the last lap, because that was the best we ran all night and we had finally gotten the car handling to where it needed to. The guys did a really good job recovering from where we had started the race and making those adjustments in order to get a decent finish. It took us pretty much the whole race to get enough adjustments to get it snugged up a little bit, but once the guys made all those changes, we had a really good car there towards the end of the race.
All four of the Roush Fenway cars finished in the top 12 at Charlotte Saturday night, so that’s a good thing for our organization. We’ve all had good runs going the past few weeks, but various problems didn’t let us get the finishes we all had been working towards. Lately we’ve had cars that could run in the top 10, which is encouraging, we just haven’t got the finishes and that’s always the disappointing part. It was nice to get the finish Saturday night at Charlotte and hopefully we can continue to get these finishes the final five weeks.
Since we raced Saturday night, that gave everyone Sunday off, so I took the day to fly up to Indiana to watch Ross race. He was racing in a CRA (Champion Racing Association) race at Winchester Speedway over the weekend. He started the race from eighth and finished 30th because of an accident early in the race. I’m really proud of him and the driver he’s becoming, so it’s always great when my schedule allows me to go and be there in person with him at the track.
Monday I was back in North Carolina and traveled up to (Greg) Biffle’s “Triple B Ranch” up in the mountains. He was hosting a fundraiser event for the Greg Biffle Foundation and a bunch of drivers attended for the day along with various sponsors. We were divided into groups and spent the afternoon on a trail ride with ATVs, there was a sporting clays competition, and we even got to take to his dirt track on property with old street cars. It was a really fun day and in the process we were able to help Greg raise money for his foundation.
I get a few days at home now before heading up to Roanoke, Virginia Thursday for an appearance at the Roanoke Civic Center. I’m participating in Kroger’s Night with the Drivers event Thursday night where I’ll sign autographs and proceeds benefit the Victory Junction Gang. I’ve been to this Night with the Driver in the past on behalf of Gatorade, and it’s a great event with the fans before we head to Martinsville for this weekend’s racing.
Thanks for all the support for the No. 17 team!
