Edwards Battles "The Monster" Through a Wild Race

Dover, Del. (May 15, 2010) – Edwards and the No. 60 Fastenal team tamed “The Monster” throughout the race in Dover this afternoon. Qualifying fourth for the Nationwide Series race, Edwards managed to run in the top 10 the majority of the afternoon. After what is starting to become the “typical” green-white-checkered finish, Edwards ran to an 11th place finish today. Edwards managed to keep his fourth place rank in series’ points.

Edwards advised his crew on lap 13 that his Ford Fusion was too loose on entry in the rear and slightly snug in the center.  On lap 34, the first caution of the day flew and Crew chief Drew Blickensderfer advised the crew on upcoming changes that they would make to the No 60. Edwards navigated his Ford down pit road from the sixth position. Stopping in the stall the Fastenal team went to work taking 1 ½ rounds out of left rear wedge, adding fuel and putting on four fresh tires. This fast 12.6 second stop contributed to Edwards restarting in the fourth position.  By lap 57 Edwards stated that the car was getting better, and he was able to pass Greg Biffle for sixth position. The second caution flag flew on lap 80 and Blickensderfer advised Edwards to pit for adjustments.  The Fastenal crew flew into action taking air out of both left side tires, taking the track bar down ½ round, and adding four tires and fuel. After this 14-second stop Edwards took the restart in the fourth position.

On lap 104 the caution flag flew once again, using strategy, Blickensderfer made the call for Edwards to stay out. Taking the green on lap 109 he was running in the third position. The team’s next stop was on lap 151 for fuel and tires plus one round down on the track bar. Edwards exited the pits in seventh position. Just over 10 laps later Edwards radioed in saying that the car just did not have a lot of grip.

Edwards’s final stop came on lap 193 where he pitted from eighth position for air and wedge adjustments plus four tires and a splash of fuel. Shortly after this stop, the field came off turn four for their fifth restart of the day when the No. 20 and No. 21 tangled causing a multi-car wreck on the front stretch. Edwards was able to maneuver around the wreck keeping the No. 60 Fastenal Ford clean. After a brief break in the action while crews cleared the track of debris, the field finally ran to the end where Kyle Busch took the checkered flag.

Next week Edwards and the No. 60 team will head to Daytona International Speedway where they will be testing the new Nationwide Series cars. Nationwide Series competition will resume in two weeks as we head home to Charlotte Motor Speedway. Catch all of the action on ABC Saturday May 29 starting at 2:00 p.m. ET.
