Edwards Dominates in Debut at Road America

Elkhart Lake, Wis. (June 19, 2010) – Carl Edwards and the No. 60 Fastenal Ford team dominated the four-mile course at Road America this week. Winning his third pole for 2010, Edwards started from the front and remained out front for the majority of the race. Leading 35 laps, Edwards went on to earn his first win of the 2010 season and the inaugural race at Road America for the NASCAR Nationwide Season. This victory is Edwards’ 26th NASCAR Nationwide Series win.

“Drew and the entire Roush Fenway team built an amazing race car…that car is really fast and it’s just a joy to drive,” Edwards said. “It is really cool to win a race for Fastenal in their backyard, when I came up around the last turn I saw all of the blue Fastenal shirts and hats, it was great and it is extra special to win at an inaugural event.”

Performing his third straight week of double duty racing, Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series, Edwards traveled this week between Infineon Speedway and Road America. Thursday, the team unloaded the same car that Edwards ran and won in at Montreal last year. From that point in practice, Edwards quickly became the fastest car on the track. During Friday’s practice Erik Darnell strapped into the No. 60 while Edwards flew to Infineon for the Sprint Cup Series practice and qualifying. Darnell and the team ran some practice laps and tried a few quick changes, keeping the car clean for Edwards’ return Saturday morning for qualifying.

Based on speeds from Friday’s first practice session, the No. 60 was placed in the first qualifying pack Saturday morning. After Edwards second lap, he laid down the quickest time of 134.838 seconds, putting him in the position to win his 21st career Nationwide Series Pole and his third for the 2010 season.

In a race that had seven cautions and just over a 30-minute red flag period, Edwards managed to stay out of harms way, keeping his car clean all afternoon. Crew Chief Drew Blickensderfer and the crew made only slight air pressure adjustments throughout the afternoon. With consistency being the key for the team, between fast pit stops and Edwards running back-to-back strong laps they were able to pull off a win.

Next Saturday, Edwards and the No. 60 Copart team will head to New England to race in the backyard of the Boston Red Sox. Catch all of the action on ESPN Saturday June 26 starting at 2:30 p.m. ET.
