Edwards Finishes Second in Nashville
Nashville, Tenn. (June 5, 2010) – Carl Edwards was off to a strong start in his first of three consecutive weekends running double duty (Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series) racing. After qualifying seventh for the NASCAR Nationwide Series race in Nashville, Carl Edwards and the No. 60 Copart Fusion finished second. Edwards, one of only four drivers to lead laps during the event, led a total of 52 laps and was competitive throughout the evening. Towards the end of the race, Edwards fought with a loose race-car and crossed the finish line behind race winner Brad Keselowski. Edwards moved up one spot in Nationwide Series points’ standings to third.
“Tonight was a great run for us and I thought there for a while we had the car to beat…we just got real loose there on that last run,” Edwards said. “I had a lot of fun and the car was fast, we will not be selling this car (No. 60) on Copart.com, this one is pretty fast and I think we’ll keep it. It was a good day for our team, Drew did a good job and also Erik Darnell did great helping out in practice Friday.”
Edwards quickly moved to the front Saturday night gaining valuable position early in the race. By lap 57, Edwards was within two car lengths of race leader Justin Allgaier and by lap 59 he took over the lead.
Early on, Edwards radioed to his crew saying that his car was a little free in the center. With a caution coming out on lap 64, Edwards came onto pit road for his first stop of the day. Crew Chief Drew Blickensderfer advised the crew on upcoming changes that they would make to the No. 60 which included a track bar adjustment, adding fuel and putting on four fresh tires. Edwards exited pit road and led the field on the restart.
By lap 78 it was a Roush Fenway show with Edwards leading the field and teammate Paul Menard running behind him in the second position. As the caution flag flew once again, Edwards lead the field back down pit road bringing his Copart Ford in for further adjustments. The team performed a quick stop and by lap 89 Edwards was back out running in the lead.
During the last two stops of the night, the team took another round out of the track bar and added a quarter pound of air pressure into the left front tire. Throughout the last 50 laps the No. 60 started to get a little too loose. In the end, the laps ran out and Edwards was unable to catch eventual race winner Brad Keselowski.
