GOODYEAR, Ariz. (Mar. 1, 2013) – Carl Edwards clocked a 26.37 second lap in today’s qualifier at Phoenix International Raceway, placing him on the eighth row to start 15th for Sunday’s Subway Fresh Fit 500.
“We were just a little bit tight,” said Edwards. “We expected it to handle a little bit differently there and it didn’t. Hopefully, we can get it better for race trim. I thought we were better than that in practice. The car has a lot of speed in it, but I think maybe I asked for the wrong thing balance-wise, but it should be good in the race.”
Mark Martin took the pole in today’s qualifying round while Kasey Kahne, Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Busch and Jeff Gordon rounded out the top five for today’s fastest laps.
This will mark the seventh year for Subway’s title sponsorship of the spring Phoenix race and Edwards’ ninth appearance at the raceway in the No. 99 Subway Ford Fusion.
Coverage of the Subway Fresh Fit 500 begins Sunday, March 3rd at 2:30 p.m. EST on FOX.
