Biffle Finishes 12th at Richmond, Clinches 7th-Place in 2013 Chase

Richmond, Va. (September 8, 2013) – Biffle drove his No. 16 Scotchgard Ford to a 12th-place finish Saturday night at Richmond, clinching a spot in the 2013 Chase for the Championship.  The 3M team was ninth heading into Saturday night’s race and on Friday evening claimed the ninth starting position.  Biffle ran almost all 400 laps inside the top 10 until losing a little ground on the final three-lap shootout to the end.  Keeping the Chase in mind, Biffle protected his Scotchgard Ford and crossed the finish line 12th.  The field is reset for the final 10 races, setting Biffle up seventh thanks to his win in Michigan earlier this season.

“I feel really good right now,” said Biffle after the race. “I gave up there at the end. Those guys were going crazy.  I wish I would have gotten a top-five finish out of that.  I am happy for Carl and we worked hard all night. We had a great car. I just couldn’t get it right getting into one and as the speed started picking up I started getting worse. I just could never get it right getting into one down there.”

Throughout the race Biffle reported back to his team that he was a little free on the track.  Crew chief Matt Puccia only made slight air pressure and wedge adjustments throughout the race since the Scotchgard Ford was one of the fastest cars on the track during green flag runs.  About 50 laps into a tire run, Biffle’s Scotchgard Ford came alive and he hunted down the competition.

After a relatively caution free race, a caution in the closing laps left the field with three laps of racing remaining.  Biffle, like many others, made a four tire pit stop and took the final green flag seventh.  As things got dicey on the track around Biffle, he played it safe and brought his Scotchgard Ford home 12th, clinching a spot in the 2013 Chase.  Biffle finished out the regular season ninth overall with one win, which sets him up seventh going into the first Chase race in Chicago.

Biffle’s Roush Fenway teammate Carl Edwards won the Federated Auto Parts 400, while Kurt Busch, Ryan Newman, Jamie McMurray and Paul Menard rounded out the top five. The Sprint Cup Series heads to Chicago next weekend for the first race of the Chase.
